Ten ways you can count on MAE membership

1 Professional Development

The Association provides you with high-quality workshops, seminars and training sessions on educational topics like classroom management, time management, student standards, as well as human and civil rights, political action, and communications. Many of these sessions also provide CEU recertification credits.

2 Networking

Through the Association you will be connected to other teachers from across the state and nation that are dealing with the same joys and frustrations as you.

3 Information

MAE is your best source of accurate, timely information. The Association keeps on top of all current laws, regulations and policies about education. Information is as close as a phone call away for any member. You also have access to both MAE and NEA Member-Only Web sites.

4 Publications

You receive award-winning MAE and NEA publications including the Educator and NEA Today. In addition, NEA’s Professional Library offers the latest in education publications, new teaching ideas and practical handbooks, at exclusive member-only rates.

5 Public Relations

The Association shares the story of public education from the school professional’s viewpoint with media across the state, through public school support campaigns, and through outreach to community and parent groups.

6 Legal Assistance

Through the Association, leaders at schools and work sites learn how to ensure employees are treated fairly at work. In addition, MAE’s UniServ Directors throughout the state are available to advise and work with school professionals with legal concerns. MAE’s attorneys are highly expert in employment-related law and school law.

7 Liability Insurance

If you are sued, MAE’s liability insurance will provide you with an attorney and $1 million in coverage for any judgment against you.

8 Lobbying

The Association is recognized as the single most effective voice for school employees and students in local schools, at the Mississippi Legislature, and in Congress. Through voluntary donations – not dues money – MAE’s Fund for Public Education helps elect friends of education to statewide posts. A committee of members interviews and recommends the endorsement.

9 Representation

Whether it’s the state board of education, a legislative committee or an education coalition, whenever decisions about teachers and students or made, MAE is there representing you.

10 Discounts

You can save money through Association discounts on car and health insurance, investment opportunities, hotel stays and car rentals. In many cases, a single use of an Association Member Benefit program saves the cost of dues.
